Chemist Warehouse Oasis Showcase Case Study

The Challenge

The brief was to create a standout showcase for Chemist Warehouse—bigger and better than ever before in Aotearoa. It needed to feel immersive, cohesive, and visually engaging, capturing every visitor as they stepped into The Cloud. With a large footprint and multiple elements to bring together, the challenge was ensuring everything worked seamlessly in both design and execution.

The Idea

Together with Darkhorse Agency, the Oasis concept was brought to life. Darkhorse initially came to us with three directions to pitch to Chemist Warehouse, which were eventually refined into the Oasis concept through multiple rounds of renders.​ To support the pitch phase, we also created branding moments within their office, helping the client visualise the concept ahead of execution.

The final design was centred around creating a space that felt fresh, inviting, and immersive, while utilising Colab assets (such as our Rio System for the walls, and our addFRAME plinth system for the counters) to ensure a cohesive outcome and keeping to a realistic budget. Custom elements such as the working 'Fountain of Youth' and the dramatic 10m (w) x 5m (h) entrance wall with reception desk elevated the experience beyond a standard exhibition.

By combining custom-built elements, structured layouts, and strong visual branding, we created an environment that not only showcased products effectively but encouraged visitors to explore.

A key part of the project involved designing and building stands for 63 individual brands across four tiers—Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum—reflecting the level of elements each brand received. Each stand was carefully crafted to feel distinctive and impactful while still fitting cohesively within the overall event.

The Result

 

The final result was Colab’s largest project to date, a fully realised showcase that delivered both visually and functionally. The event generated significant social media attention, and seeing the client so moved that they were brought to tears as they walked in was a proud moment for everyone involved.

After seven months of preparation and four days to pack in on site, the project stood as a major milestone for our team, demonstrating our ability to execute complex projects at scale. With a core team of just 16 people—from our in-house design and render team to on-site installers—bringing the Oasis to life was no small feat and remains one of our most ambitious projects to date.
